The Graduation Ceremony A Detailed Look

The NTU Graduation Ceremony is a formal and joyous event held at the Nanyang Auditorium on the NTU campus. Here’s a general idea of what to expect on the day:

• Arrival and Registration: graduands and their guests are advised to arrive at least one hour before the start of their scheduled ceremony. Separate registration counters are set up for graduates and guests. Graduates will need to present their QR code and identification documents for attendance taking and will receive attendace cards. Guests will also need to present their QR codes to receive wristbands for entry.
• Seating: graduates are usually seated together in a designated area, while guests are ushered to their seats in the auditorium. It’s important to be seated at least 15 minutes before the ceremony begins, as entry to the auditorium may be closed thereafter.
• Academic procession: the ceremony commences with the entrance of the academic procession, consisting of unversity officials, faculty members, and distinguished guests, dressed in their academic regalia.
• Commencement of ceremony: The Presiding Officer will address the graduating class and guests, followed by speeches from distinguished speakers.
• Conferment of Degrees: the highlight of the ceremony is the presentation of graduates. Graduands will be called to the stage by school/college, and individually receive a folder from Presiding Officer after a handshake. Professional photographers will be present to capture this moment.
• Stage etiquette: graduates are exprected to conduct themselves respectfully on stage. Selfies, “wefies” or nay distruptive behavior are strictly prohibited. After receiving the folder, graduates will walk across the stage, descend the steps, and proceed to collect their degree certificate and transcript before returning to their seats.
• Valedictorian speech: a valedictorian, chosen from the graduating cohort, will deliver a speech on behalf of the students.
• Class gift presentation: sometimes, the graduating class presents a gift to the university as a token of their appreciation.
• Closing remarks and recession: the ceremony concludes with closing remarks from university officials and the recession of the academic procession.
• Post ceremony: graduates and guests will be directed to exit the auditorium with graduates usually exiting first. There may be designated areas for taking photographs with family and friends aftrer the ceremony.
